Colors and style

Flowers add so much character to your decor and what you carry down the aisle is a direct reflection of your personality. The second I see a bouquet or table setting I can get a feel of what the day may look like. I think it's super important for you to love your flowers and be completely on board in the decision making with your planner or florist. Examples: Don't get talked into a cascading bouquet if it's not your vibe. Also, if you don't want giant centerpieces with whatever was available speak up. I also will add I personally love the little charms and details on the ribbon or stems of the bouquet. It's the first thing I look for.

The size matters

Ok this is the title of this blog for good reason. It's why I thought of making this post in the first place. You may think the bigger the better when it comes to bouquet size... and while they are always stunning, they are extremely heavy. I know this because I usually end up carrying them at some point because they get to be too much. Here's what I have heard many times over the last 22 years of my wedding photography career, "I'm nervous to walk down the aisle and my arms are burning because my bouquet is so heavy." It's almost like a relief to hand it off and to be perfectly honest when it comes time for family formal photos these brides don't want it back. It sits in the front row seat. I'm no flower expert but I do know this may help someone with their decision.

Choose flowers in season

Believe it or not if you incorporate flowers that are in season you will not only get quality bloom but also bang out of your buck. If you have your heart set on out of season stems you may also consider using the seasonal filler around the statement pieces. Keep in mind that weather and other factors will impact the growth and availability. A side note to mention is I would also ask your florist about which flowers can withstand high heat if you are getting married in the thick of summer. I've seen flowers wilt before an "I do" was ever spoken.
